TIMOTHY 3:15,16

Verse 15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Paul tells Timothy to know how to conduct himself in the house of God. The house of the living God, the pillar and ground of truth.

In this verse we find the definition of what church is:

(1) The house of God

(2) Church of the living God

(3) The Pillar of Truth

(4) The Ground of Truth

The church is not the physical building that people meet on Sunday morning – it is the people who believe in Jesus, are baptized and together in a covenant relationship with each other. Jesus Christ is their head and leader. Paul in Ephesians 5:23-29 tells us that Jesus is the head of the Church.

God has given us all truth. He is the source of truth. Jesus says that He is the Truth in John 14:6. The Church is expected to be the proclaimer and defender of the truth! In the

The Great mystery of Godliness is revealed through Jesus Christ our Lord. In 1 Timothy 3:16, Paul tells his mentee that the unfolded mystery is Jesus:

· Appeared in the body,

· Justified in the Spirit

· Seen by Angels

· Was Preached among Gentiles

· Believed in the world

· Received up in Glory

(1) Jesus lived among men and we beheld the glory as of he begotten Son of God – John 1:14

(2) Jesus resurrection was a great mystery – still is! Acts 2:24

(3) Jesus name is above all names. – Philippians 2:9-11, Hebrews 1:6

(4) Jesus was preached among the Gentiles. That is how we at Mt Kenya Baptist Church have received the Gospel! – Colossians 1:23

(5) Jesus is believed on in the world – 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5. Paul's preaching was not that of enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of Spirit and Power – that our faith should be grounded in the Power of God.

(6) Jesus was taken up to Glory – Ephesians 4:10
